Role: Senior Project Manager
This show was a special one for a lot of reasons. For Tommy Hilfiger’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection, the chosen venue was yet another iconic New York City staple: The Staten Island Ferry. This particular vessel, the MV John F. Kennedy, has a strong personal connection, being that my great-grandfather’s firm, Kindlund & Drake, designed the ship in the 1960’s. Little did we know that 60 years later, the family would still be doing exciting work on it.
With PRODJECT, we gave the legendary ship some much needed love, completely re-designing the upper deck to accommodate the fashion show and cocktail party to follow. By leaning into the existing look and feel, we gave her a new paint job, flooring and rearranged the existing bench seating for a unique runway layout. It was a thrill to not only breathe new life into the ferry, personally overseeing the custom designed advertisements and signage seen throughout, but to also dive deep into the distinct challenges of maritime protocols and safety measurements necessary to pull off this spectacular feat.
Being the first to bring a production to the ferry since Pete Davidson and Colin Jost famously purchased her in 2022, it’s been great to see the success achieved by all the teams involved. The security and PR logistics needed while docked at Pier 17 brought not only specific needles to thread due to the public/private nature of the location, but resulted in a seamless and elegant experience for not just the guests, but press and passers by as well. With talent such as Questlove for the runway show itself, followed by a finale performance by none other than The Wu-Tang Clan(!), I’m proud of the efforts of our team to pull it all off without a hitch.
I’m pretty sure my great-grandfather would be proud too… and likely very confused.
